Helpful FAQs

Does my child need Occupational Therapy and would they benefit?

Many children would benefit from Occupational Therapy services particularly those with:
-No/ low frustration tolerance with resistants to transitions
-Frequent falls and bumping into things due to poor body/ spacial awareness
-Difficulty with self-care (initiating and sequencing through ADLs)
-Picky eaters and unwilling to try new foods with an aversion to various textures
-Fear or heights or phobia
-Inability to sit still or focus whether at home or school due to hyperactivity and/ or impulse control
-Challenges with manipulating buttons, zippers, and shoelaces.
-Poor social skills with difficulties making friends, sharing, and taking turns.
-Low energy with decreased endurance strength
Your child would benefit from Occupational Therapy to improve skills that are necessary to complete self-care, school work, and daily tasks successfully. Impairment in just one area of development can impact everyday tasks and make solving everyday problems challenging.

What do I need to start Occupational Therapy services?

The child must have a referral for Occupational Therapy from a provider. Once Rock Therapeutic Services receives the referral and insurance is verified, the office manager will assist you with scheduling an evaluation.

How long is an Occupational Therapy session?

Evaluations are about 50-60 minutes and consist of parent interviews along with standardized testing. Parents typically wait in the waiting room to complete intake forms while the child is participating in formal testing. After evaluations are completed, each additional session is about 50 minutes.

Who is Occupational Therapy for and what does an evaluation assess?

Occupational Therapy is for any child who is struggling with developmental skills or having trouble keeping up with everyday tasks.

An evaluation typically assesses fine and gross motor skills, coordination, balance, motor planning, visual motor, and visual perceptual skills along with much more! We work with children with ADD, ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Processing Disorders and those that have emotional dysregulation/ decreased social skills, and difficulties with self-care tasks (dressing, bathing, self-feeding, oral hygiene and toileting).

What guides our treatment sessions?

Client-centered care is what guides our interventions. We practice using Sensory Integration (Tactile, Proprioceptive, Vestibular), Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy, acquisitional, biomechanical, compensatory, developmental, NDT, rehabilitative, social participation, behavioral frames of reference, and many more. Interventions selected are child specific to meet the child’s needs.

Cancellations, Sick Policy, Vacations, and Holidays

Cancellation Policy

In order to provide the best possible service and availability to all of our clients, it is our policy to charge $75.00 to clients who do not provide sufficient notice for cancellations.

We ask for as much notice as possible. Ideally, this means at least 24-hour notice.

In this event, parents contact us on or before 8:00 am the day of your child’s appointment.

425-358-4885 or email [email protected]

*If the call is received later than 8:00am the client will be responsible to pay a cancellation fee of $75.00. Three un-canceled ‘no-shows’ are grounds for termination of treatment.

Medical insurance does not cover canceled or missed appointments. In emergency situations (earthquakes, motor vehicle accidents, etc), Rock Therapeutic Services does not require any notice and will not bill the client for the canceled appointment.

Sick Policy

If your child is sick, please keep him/her at home. Children who are not feeling well, will not do well in therapy. If the child is not contagious and seems to be in good spirits you can bring him/her to therapy. If the therapist determines he/she is not healthy enough to participate in therapy, she may call the parent/caregiver to take the child home early.

If your child starts feeling better on the day of his/her appointment, you can call and see if your child’s appointment is still available. We will do our best to find an opening in our schedule for your child to be seen.
